What Do I Need To Do To Stop a Foreclosure?
by: Alaska Legal Services Corporation
If you are buying a home and there's a threat of a foreclosure against you, you should see if the foreclosure notices match up with legal requirements. Most foreclosures are "nonjudicial," so you should look at AS 34.20.070-.130; it's also possible that your deed of trust will give you some redemption rights that go beyond what's required by the statute. If the notices are not accurate, you might be able to file a lawsuit to stop the foreclosure sale.
If you are in financial trouble, you should contact a bankruptcy lawyer to see if the best course would be to file for bankruptcy.
