How Can I Stop CSSD From Taking My Wages For Child Support If My Child Is Over 18?
by: Alaska Legal Services Corporation
In some cases, the child support order may provide that the child support obligation continues past the age of 18. Usually this happens if the child is still in high school when he or she turns 18, but sometimes it is because the child has special needs or because the parents agreed to extent the obligation. If this is what your child support order provides, then you will be obligated to pay the child support until your child graduates high school or some other condition stated in the order is met.
If your child support order states that the obligation ends on your child's 18th birthday, then the monthly obligation ceases at the end of your child's birthday month. However, if you fell behind in paying your child support, and an arrearage accrued, you will still have to pay each month until all that back support owed is paid in full.
