What To Do If Your Claim For Disability Has Been Denied

If you've been denied disability and want to appeal, the first question is what kind of disability you've been denied.Many disabled people apply for Social Security Disability Insurance or Supplemental Security Income from the Federal Government and for Adult Public Assistance from the State Division of Public Assistance.
If you're denied Social Security Disability benefits, your first two appeals are within the Social Security system, and you would then have a chance to take the case to Federal court.
If you're denied state Adult Public Assistance, you can request a state Fair Hearing, then appeal to the Director of the DPA, and then file an administrative appeal in state superior court.
The decisions against you from Social Security or from the State should explain how and where to file your appeal.
Alaska Legal Services represents people in disability cases in some circumstances; so does the Disability Law Center, and so do some private attorneys.Make sure you don't miss any of the deadlines set out in the notices.
