Do You Qualify for Lifeline? You Can Get a FREE Cell Phone

Lifeline Service is part of a program that was created by the government to provide discounted or free telephone service to income-eligible people.  To help bring you this important benefit, SafeLink Wireless offers the Lifeline Service to qualifying people in Alabama.

Please note: You cannot qualify for a free cell phone if anyone in your household currently receives Lifeline Service through another phone carrier.

In general, you may qualify if:

1. You already participate in other State and Fedeal assistance programs such as Federal Public Housing Assistance, Food Stamps and Medicaid.

OR

2. Your total household income is at or below 135% of the poverty guidelines set by your State and/or the Federal government.

AND

3. No one in your household currently receives Lifeline Service through another phone carrier.

4. You have a valid United States Postal Address.  In order to get your free cell phone, you must live at a residence that can receive mail from the U.S. Post Office.  Post Office Boxes cannot be used.

In addition to meeting the guidelines above, you will also have to provide proof that you get Medicaid, Food Stamps (SNAP), SSI, Section 8 Housing Assistance, Low Income Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) OR proof of your income level.
