Calaveras County Family Court Services Program
Family Court Services (FCS) performs child custody mediation and
evaluation services, under-age marriage permissions, Court investigations
for guardianships, conservatorships and step-parent adoptions, and
emancipation evaluations upon Court referrals. FCS also offers a
Mediation Orientation Class to prepare the parties for the mediation
process. It is now available online.
Child custody mediation is offered at no fee; however, there is a fee
for child custody evaluations based on the clients' ability to pay. The
current fee is $1,200.00, which is usually divided between the parties.
If there has been a history of domestic violence or if there is a restraining
order in place, the parties are entitled to separate mediation sessions
and customers are advised to inform the front counter staff of the
restraining orders prior to the setting of the mediation appointments.
This will allow court staff the ability to set separate appointments and
maintain confidential addresses.
