Calvary's Women Center The Center is a 25-bed overnight shelter for homeless women. It provides showers, a small breakfast, and locker facilities. A social worker and a psychiatrist are available.

Central Union Mission Central Union Mission offers spiritual recovery during a 16-24 week program that includes alcoholic rehabilitation and temporary shelter for men. Meals are served twice a day. Chapel services are also provided.

Change, Inc. Change, Inc. provides assistance in finding affordable housing as well as temporary shelter, employment readiness training, and referrals for emergency food, clothing bank, and shelter.
Christ House Christ House provides a 32 bed medical recovery unit for homeless men and women suffering from medical conditions. Persons may reside there until they are recovered, at which time they will be referred to a more permanent place of residence.

D.C. Housing Authority The Housing Authority provides rent assistance for low-income families and individuals. Once certified to receive aid, the recipients find their own housing, although some assistance is given by the agency.

D.C. Rape Crisis Center The Center's services include: a 24-hour hotline, group and individual counseling services for rape and incest survivors and their families and friends, a companion program to accompany survivors to hospitals, courts and police proceedings, low-cost self-defense classes, a growing library, training for professionals working with survivors and a wide array of community education programs including "Staying Safe" classes for children of all ages within the D.C. public school system.
DC Office on Aging The DC Office on Aging develops and carries out a comprehensive and coordinated system of health, education, employment, and social services for the District's elderly population, who are 60 years of age and older. Its services include a city-run nursing home as well as Senior Centers throughout the District, all of which serve lunch.

Dinner Program for Homeless Women The Dinner Program provides a nutritious meal 5 nights a week. In addition, it serves as an anchor for women by providing counseling and toiletries, AA meetings, health referrals, and employment counseling. It also provides food services training to some clients.

Dwelling Place, Shelter for the Abused Elderly This is a program of the D.C. Office on Aging and SOME (So Others Might Eat). The shelter is for those elderly persons who have suffered some form of abuse or who are at risk in the community. There are multiple services offered, including meals.

For Love of Children Five programs are offered:
(1) learning center
(2) group home for adolescents
(3) foster home program
(4) housing program for families, and
(5) therapeutic foster home program for children who cannot benefit from regular foster care.
There is an outdoor education center and the housing program provides up to 3 years of transitional housing.

House of Ruth House of Ruth provides a temporary overnight shelter for women. It operates six safe houses.

Housing Counseling Services, Inc. Housing Counseling Services provides counseling to tenants who are facing eviction or are delinquent in rent payments and to home owners who are facing default or are delinquent in mortgage payments. It provides Emergency Rental Assistance funding to qualified applicants (see attached file for information on how and where to apply). It offers pre-purchasing counseling, budget and financial counseling, and home rehabilitation counseling. It assists consumers by citing appropriate laws and regulations and by providing referrals. A certified housing counselor is available to assist with related problems. Operation Match provides temporary living arrangements for college students or anyone else who needs a roomate, including elderly or disabled persons who will trade room and board for a companion's assistance.

Luther Place Women's Night Shelter This is a night shelter for women. A hot meal and light breakfast are provided. Space is available for up to 31 wome, but the shelter can handle more in an emergency. Most women are mentally ill.

Lutheran Social Services The Lutheran Social Services provide family and child services (extensive adoption services, natural parent counseling, foster care, resettlement, and legalization services for refugees) as well as community justice ministry (provides housing resources for the homeless, low income housing locations, mental health services, emergency services).
