Children's Law Center
The Children's Law Center (CLC) helps at-risk children in the District of Columbia find safe, permanent homes and the education, health care and social services they need to flourish by providing a comprehensive range of legal services to children, families, and foster and kinship caregivers.
All of our legal services are provided at no cost to our clients. Currently, we are focusing on providing free legal services to:
- Foster and kinship caregivers wishing to give permanent homes to abused and neglected children through adoption, guardianship or custody;
- Grandparents and other relatives interested in DC's Grandparent Caregiver Pilot Program;
- Parents whose children receive primary care from the Children's Health Center or Adolescent Health Center at Children's National Medical Center or one of the other five Children's Health Center primary care clinic locations (Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue; Adams Morgan; Good Hope Road; Shaw; THEARC);
- Low and moderate income third party (non-parent) caregivers seeking custody of children who are in their care;
- Low and moderate income caregivers seeking to adopt at-risk children for whom they have been caring through private adoption proceedings.
