Individuals who already receive Medicare, and whose income is less than $759 gross per month whose non-exempt resources are less than $4,000 are eligible for the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) program. A husband and wife with less than $1,015 per month in gross income and no more than $6,000 in non-exempt resources are eligible. The QMB program pays Medicare premiums, coinsurance and deductibles.
Individuals whose gross monthly income does not exceed $879 and couples whose gross monthly income does not exceed $1,214 are eligible for the Specified Low Income Medicare Beneficiaries (SLMB) program. The resource limits are the same as for the QMB program. The SLMB program pays Medicare Part B premiums, giving eligible persons an extra $45.50 in their monthly Social Security checks.
Some individuals whose income does not exceed $1,017 and couples whose gross income does not exceed $1,364 (with the same resources limits mentioned above) may be able to have their Medicare Part B premiums paid; this program is limited to available funds.
