Health Care Coverage for Children and Teenagers

Most children and teenagers can get health care coverage in Georgia under Medicaid or PeachCare for Kids:
if they are under age 19, and
if their family income is less than 235% of the federal poverty level (about $3,545 a month for a family of four in 2002)
Children and Teens can get most services they need.
There is a special Medicaid program for children and teenagers called EPSDT (Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment). Children and teenagers can get regular check-ups and immunizations. (Georgia calls this part of the program Health Check.) They can also get treatment they need for physical and mental health conditions the check ups find-including some services that are not covered for adults. Here are some of the EPSDT services they can get if they need them:
eyeglasses
dental care and braces
doctor, nursing, and hospital services for illnesses, injuries, or disabilities
prescription medicines and medical equipment
help with drug or alcohol problems
help with mental or emotional problems
transportation to and from health services
Call toll-free: 1-877-427-3224. If you choose, you can apply at your county Department of Family and Children's Services.
These health services can help your child or teenager stay well. You can also learn about any problems early when they may be easy to correct. If she or he is already covered under Medicaid or PeachCare, ask the doctor about getting check-ups and all needed services.
