How To Stop Your Landord From Shutting Off Your Utilities Illegally If your utilities have been shut off and you want the court to award you money damages, you need to see the Legal Aid self-help packet called ?How To File a Complaint for Damages If Your Utilities Have Been Shut-off Illegally.?
Use this packet if:
? you rent from a private landlord and/or receive Section 8 assistance, AND
? your landlord has threatened to shut off your utilities OR has already shut off
your utilities, AND
? your landlord does not have a court order to evict you.
In addition to completing this packet, you will also need to complete a "Return of Service" form. You can pick up the Return of Service form from the District Court in your area.
