Legal Aid Attorney Wins Prestigious Award (5/3/2002)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE         

Legal Aid Society of Hawai`i attorney, Elizabeth Croom, recently received the Rhoda Lewis Public Service Award for outstanding public service. The prestigeous award is given by the Hawai`i Women’s Legal Foundation to one female attorney per year. She was presented with the award on April, 28th, 2002, at the home of Terry and Rick Clifton.

Ms. Croom, who currently resides in Kona, Hawai`i, is a magna cum laude graduate of University of Georgia, School of Law, and holds an L.L.M. degree with distinction from the London School of Economics. She spent two years working as an associate with Goodsill Anderson Quinn and Stifel in Kona, on the Big Island before working at the Legal Aid office in Kona.

Ms. Croom emphasized child welfare and health care law at Legal Aid, and she developed and implemented two statewide projects there: the Medicaide Advocacy Project and the Legal Services for Adoptive Families Project.

In addition to litigation and projects at Legal Aid, Ms. Croom has been involved in a number of Hawai`i Bar Association and community activities. Most recently, she was the coordinator of the North Kona Community Voices Project

for the Elderly. She currently sits on the board of directors of the Hawai`i Island YMCA and is a member of the Child Welfare Services Committee, which addresses child welfare issues.
