FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lieutenant Governor Duke Aiona will bring Easter cheer to many children this Easter season. On Wednesday, April 7th, Lieutenant Governor Aiona presented Victor Geminiani, Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society of Hawai`i, with over 100 goodie bags to distribute to children of clients and those seeking legal assistance with Legal Aid. The goodie bags are filled with a variety of crayons, coloring books, activity books, and stickers.
The Legal Aid Society of Hawai`i helps thousands of families who cannot afford to hire a lawyer to have easier access to the justice system. Legal Aid is able to help families take care of pressing legal matters such as child support, child custody, adoption, guardianship, housing issues, consumer issues, public benefits and many others. A majority of Legal Aid clients are families with children who are not able to find childcare while they take care of their critical civil legal matters. The children of these families have to wait patiently while court proceedings and counsel sessions go on and may experience anxiety and stress in unfamiliar environments.
Childcare is just one of the many things that these families have to think about while trying to deal with the many stressors in their lives. The Lieutenant Governor recognized that providing goodie bags to the children would be a heartfelt way to support Hawai`i's most needy families and Legal Aid's commitment to the community. Legal Aid Society of Hawai`i is grateful that they are able to receive such a warm donation and to be part of bringing these children a bit of happiness and cheer during this Easter Season. If anyone would like more information about the Legal Aid Society of Hawai`i's services they are urged to call 536-4302.
