Legal Aid Society of Hawai`i Fair Housing Education and Outreach Project held an in-house Keiki Art Contest in February of this year. Legal Aid announced the winners of the Keiki Art Contest on April 1st to celebrate the beginning of Fair Housing Education Month in Hawai`i. Three keiki won the contest and their artwork will be part of the official Legal Aid awareness campaign. The winner's artwork is now being displayed on Legal Aid Fair Housing Stickers that are being distributed as part of Fair Housing Education Month. Legal Aid Staff and all Fair Housing Officers in the state will wear these stickers throughout the month. Stickers will also be displayed on mailings sent out in April as well. "We are hoping that the stickers will spark people's interest in finding out what Housing Discrimination is and to become educated on theri rights and responsibilities." During the month of April, Legal Aid in partnership with Fair Housing agencies and officers in the state will conduct free Fair Housing Training Seminars around the state. Trainings will be held from April 12th through May 7th on four major islands. Legal Aid will also be attending various community events and Neighborhood Board meetings to help broaden the awareness on Fair Housing in the state. People who are interested in learning more about Fair Housing Laws and Housing Discrimination are urged to call the Fair Housing Enforcement Program at 527-8024.
