| What Is ILAW? |
|
"The Iowa Legal Aid Website" is a service of Iowa Legal Aid and other organizations working for fairness in our state. ILAW provides resources for low-income Iowans, seniors and others looking for help with a legal problem or seeking information on the law. Iowa Legal Aid cannot help with criminal problems and this website does not deal with criminal law. |

| Income guidelines |
| Iowa Legal Aid has income and asset guidelines. The guidelines change periodically and may not apply in every case. Income guidelines use a percentage of the federal poverty guidelines. Some special projects of Iowa Legal Aid, such as The Legal Hotline for Older Iowans, The Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic and the Assistive Technology Project, have other criteria for who is eligible for services. Other organizations may have other guidelines for assistance. |

| If I am income-eligible will Iowa Legal Aid take my case? |
| Not necessarily. Income is just one of the criteria that Iowa Legal Aid uses to decide on whether we can help. We provide different levels of service depending on the types of legal problems and the staff we have available. Helping persons with critical legal needs as is the primary focus of full representation. Helping victims of domestic violence, persons who may be homeless through the loss of their home or apartment, helping obtain public benefits like unemployment SSI, food assistance or welfare and preventing utility shut offs are examples of the types of cases Iowa Legal Aid handles. |
