Other Information
AIDSLaw provides free legal services to low-income Louisiana residents (incomes below 400% of the federal poverty level) with an HIV and/or AIDS diagnosis. AIDSLaw provides: estate planning, notarial services, and family permanency planning services. AIDSLaw also assists with: debtor/creditor matters; public benefits; insurance/employee benefits; discrimination on the basis of HIV status in employment, housing and access to public accommodations; and issues of confidentiality and transmission liability.

How to Get Help
Choose ONE of the following ways to get help:
 
   Contact this group by calling for an appointment. Mon., Tues. Thurs. 9:00-12:30 at 2601 Tulane Avenue, Suite 430. On Wednesdays and Fridays only, at HIV outpatient clinic. Call main number to check availability of outpatient clinic intake.
 
Location: Contact out office for an appointment during office hours 9am to 5pm, Mon.-Fri. at 504-568-1631 or 1-800-375-5035.
Cross Streets: S. Cortez and S. Scott
Bring picture La. ID, proof of HIV/AIDS status, and income verification.
Intake is also taken by mail, e-mail to aidslaw@bellsouth.net, or you can walk in to the office. Monthly intake is also done at various AIDS service organizations.

Legal issues related to the HIV/AIDS status (i.e. discrimination due to status, breach of confidentiality/privacy/HIPPA violations, SSI/SSDI, Immigration, Pre-released Prisoners, ....) Mandatory: The potential client must be affected by HIV/AIDS. *Fees: No out-of-pocket fees to the potential client.
Languages Spoken  Spanish
Interpreters can be provided for: Spanish Interpreters are provided through various AIDS Service Organizations.
Wheelchair Accessible Y
Access for the deaf: Staff member who can use sign language.
Income Guidelines: 

  Income Guidelines: Our office utilizes a 400% below poverty scale. Mandatory: The potential client must be affected by HIV/AIDS. *Fees: No out-of-pocket fees to the potential client.
 
Some exceptions for residents of Orleans Parish and other parishes, call for more information.
 
Other Requirements: For help, you must be:
  AIDS person
 
There are no fees for service.

This group provides the following types of services based on your legal needs and its resources:
 
  Full Legal Representation- Administrative advocacy but generally no representation in court.
  Brief Advice or Service
  Self-Help Materials
  Other- Our office provides the following services: 1. Public Benefits: SSI/SSDI initial application assistance, 2. Estate Planning, 3. Immigration, 4. Creditor/Debtor Assitance, 5. Litigation, and more... Informational Materials are available in the office. (Please contact the office or visit our website for additional information).

Emergency Instructions
If your problem is an emergency as described below, follow the contact instructions for emergency cases. Most offices are open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
 
What is an emergency?  If you have an urgent legal matter, please do not hesitate to contact our office as soon as possible. If your issue occurs after office hours, please call and leave a message on the receptionist mail box. Press "0" at the prompt.
