Southeast Louisiana Legal Services has offices in Hammond, Covington, New Orleans, and Marrero. SLLS' four offices provide civil legal assistance to low-income people across a 22-parish area. See www.slls.org to find the SLLS office that serves your parish.

Southeast Louisiana Legal Services Corporation offers free legal aid for most civil problems, including family, domestic violence, landlord-tenant, food stamps, welfare, health, disability benefits, bankruptcy, consumer, employment and tax cases. SLLS does not handle criminal, prisoner and personal injury cases.

The four offices of Southeaset Louisiana Legal Services cover 10 parishes: Jefferson, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington

Income Guidelines: 

  Tax controversy must be less than $50,000 for each year involved.
 
Federal tax issues: 250% of poverty. Other tax issues: 200% of poverty with some limited exceptions.
 
Other Requirements: For help, you must be:

Emergency Instructions
If your problem is an emergency as described below, follow the contact instructions for emergency cases. Most offices are open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
 
What is an emergency?  It's an emergency if you have been served with court papers or have a hearing or trial date, or are a victim of domestic violence.
