Find a Lawyer
Find a Court
How to find a Louisiana court in your area.

Most state and federal courts in Louisiana are listed here.  Smaller ones, like justices of the peace, are not.  To find other courts, look in the government listings (blue pages) of your telephone book.

A court listed here may not be the right court for your problem.  You may need to speak with a lawyer for advice, or get a lawyer to represent you.

There are 5 resources
5th Judicial District Court (Franklin Parish)
Generally, district courts handle most civil and criminal cases. A district court can also review decisions from smaller courts like justices of the peace.

   Louisiana Supreme Court
This is the highest court in Louisiana, for both civil and criminal cases. It also handles discipline for judges and lawyers.

   Second Circuit Court of Appeal
This is one of the five state courts of appeal, whichl are in between the trial courts and the Louisiana Supreme Court. Their general function is to review the decisions of trial courts.

U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit
This federal court handles appeals from federal district courts, appeals from federal agencies, and other matters.

U.S. District Court, Western District of Louisiana (Monroe Office)
Federal district courts are the trial courts of the federal court system. There are limits, but in general federal district courts handle all kinds of problems, civil and criminal.
