Janitors sue grocery chains over pay

Hundreds of California janitors have joined a class-action lawsuit against several supermarket chains and the cleaning contractors they employ, charging that they paid the cleaners less than minimum wage and worked them excessive hours without overtime pay.  The suit is against Safeway, Albertsons, Vons and Ralph's supermarkets, as well as Encompass Staffing Services and its subsidiary Building One Service Solutions.  For more details, see the San Francisco Chronicle article at http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2004/01/28/BUGS04JB0M1.DTL
