- Has DHAP been extended?
Yes. The Obama Administration created a transitional program. It began on March 1, 2009 and will last until August 31st, 2009. This will be the last extension.
DHAP will mail its part of the rent directly to the landlords each month. The last payment will be mailed August 1, 2009.
- What rent should I pay for March 2009?
You should pay whatever your tenant share of rent was for February plus $100. In April, your rent goes up another $100. Your rent will continue to go up by $100 each month until the program ends on August 31, 2009.
For example, if your share of rent was $150 for February, you must pay $250 for March, $350 for April, $450 for May, $550 for June, $650 for July, and $750 for August.
- Is there a hardship waiver during this extension?
No. There are no new hardship waivers. If you already have a hardship waiver, you will continue to get it. But you must pay the additional $100 increases each month until you get a voucher, or until the program ends.
- What should I do if I moved because I thought DHAP was ending?
Go to the DHAP office immediately with your new lease and your new landlord's information.
- Is everyone on DHAP getting a voucher?
No. Only DHAP families who meet the income and background qualifications for Section 8 will be eligible for a Section 8 voucher.
