National Runaway Switchboard Hotline
by: National Runaway Switchboard
This is the NRS intervention process, described on its website, www.nrscrisisline.org:
"We can help you talk it out. We're here to listen! All calls are CONFIDENTIAL AND FREE 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We won't tell you what to do and we're not here to give out advice. We aim to help you help yourself. We use crisis intervention to work through problems and find a plan of action. Help is available. Call 1-800-621-4000 now to speak with someone. What is Crisis Intervention?
The goal of crisis intervention is to help you help yourself. We will use active listening skills to help you process your feelings and the facts about your situation. We will ask questions about the nature of the crisis. We might ask about your relationships with the people in your house and details about communication patterns. It's important for us to get a clear understanding of your situation and see it from your perspective. Remember, we don't know you or anything about your life. We don't ask questions to be nosy but to find the source of the trouble.
Sometimes the problem is fairly obvious, but in the middle of a crisis it's hard to know which way is up! We can help you to sort it out. We focus on how to control and manage the crisis situation. The National Runaway Switchboard will discuss informal and formal options and give appropriate referrals. We have a huge database of agencies and services that can be of assistance. Finally, we'll help you to develop a detailed plan of action. Help is available! Call 1-800-621-4000 to talk with someone now."
