Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC)    nis a statewide, nonprofit law that provides free legal services in civil matters to low-income people in order to ensure equal access to justice and to remove legal barriers to economic opportunity.   The legal staff of Legal Aid of NC - New Bern Office provides legal assistance in civil matters to eligible, low-income clients who have problems with their basic needs and live in the five-county area surrounding New Bern, NC: 

        Beaufort County
        Carteret County
        Craven County
        Jones County
        Pamlico County

How to Get Help
Choose ONE of the following ways to get help:
 
   Contact this group by attending a clinic at We provide a Pro Se Divorce Clinic at various times on Tuesday and Thursdays at the Craven County Department of Social Services Career Center, Pamlico County Courthouse, and the Carteret County Courthouse.

Area(s) Served:  Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Jones, Pamlico
Interpreters can be provided for: Interpreters are provided for non-Spanish speakers during inititial contact, intake interview and throughout representation as needed. Interpreters for Spanish speakers are provided during intake interview and throughout representation.
Wheelchair Accessible Y
Access for the deaf: Telephone access is available for the deaf.
Income Guidelines: 
  Your family's income should be at or below 125.0% of the poverty level.

There are limited exceptions. Please call the Legal Aid of NC office in New Bern to see if you are eligible for our services.

This group provides the following types of services based on your legal needs and its resources:
 
  Full Legal Representation
  Brief Advice
  Pro Se Legal Clinic- We provide a Pro Se Divorce Clinic once a month at the Craven Regional Library in New Bern and 4 times a year at the Webb Memorial Library in Morehead City. Four (4) Pro Se Custody Clinic are held at same libraries twice a year.
