Pisgah Legal Services (PLS) primarily helps people in Buncombe, Madison, Transylvania, Henderson, Polk, and Rutherford Counties . The mission of Pisgah Legal Services is to provide effective, high-quality legal counseling and representation for low-income people in certain non-criminal matters that address clients' basic needs; to ensure equal justice for low-income people; and to advance and protect their legal rights.
Pisgah Legal Services is committed to equal justice for all people. We help children, families, and adults solve problems that affect their basic needs, such as: housing; safety from domestic abuse; health care (including Medicaid and Medicare access); subsistence income (SSI, SSDI) education. We provide legal help in non-criminal matters to people who cannot afford a private attorney.
To get help from PLS, you must:
1. Meet our low-income guidelines-we determine if you qualify by looking at income, family size, assets, and living expenses.
2. Have a problem that affects your basic needs.

At any given time we have 25-35 people waiting to be called by one of our two screeners. Therefore, we often can't get back in touch with clients for 2-3 business days.

Interpreters can be provided for: When needed, we provide interpretation services by one of the four staff members in our office that speaks Spanish. We provide this service both here in the office and in court.

Access for the deaf: We have signers that we hire if we have a deaf walk-in. We also work with Relay NC if need be.

Your family's income should be at or below 125.0% of the poverty level.

If the person is under 60, 125% of federal poverty level is the cut-off. If the person is over 60, then 187.5% of the federal poverty level is the cut-off.

| Sometimes clients have to pay court costs, but we always encourage them to file as an indigent, if we think that they are eligible. |
