Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) is a statewide, nonprofit law that provides free legal services in civil matters to low-income people in order to ensure equal access to justice and to remove legal barriers to economic opportunity.   The legal staff of Legal Aid of NC - Charlotte Office provides legal assistance in civil matters to eligible, low-income clients who have problems with their basic needs and live in Mecklenburg County

  This service is by request only. If you do not have transportation to our office and/or do not have a telephone, we will send you the intake sheet by mail and correspond with you that way.

  Directions: Coming away from town towards Presbyterian Hospital, you would go past Central Piedmont, which is on the corner of Trade and Central Avenue. Once you pass Central Piedmont, you will cross over Independence Blvd. Once you cross over Independence Blvd., our office is on the left corner of Elizabeth and Torrence.
  Please bring all documents relevant to the legal issue you would like to discuss with us.

Interpreters can be provided for: When there is someone that we are able to assist and we need to be able to communicate with them, we will hire interpreters.
Wheelchair Accessible Y
Access for the deaf: When there is someone that we are able to assist and we need to be able to communicate with them, we will hire interpreters.
Income Guidelines: 
  Your family's income should be at or below 125.0% of the poverty level.

  Eligibility is based on household size and income. You must also have a legal problem that falls within the guidelines of what we can assist clients with.
 
There are some limited exceptions. Please call the Legal Aid of North Carolina office in Charlotte to see if you are eligible for our services.
