LIFE ESTATES

 (Versíon en Español atras)

What is a life estate?

It is a right to property for as long as the person with the life estate is alive.  A life estate is usually seen when Person A gives Person B property, but Person A wants to have the right to use the property while Person A is alive.  After Person A dies, Person B becomes the owner of the property.  Person B doesn't have the right to do anything with or on the property as long as Person A is alive.

Where do I get a copy of a deed for a life estate?

There are no blank forms for a life estate.  Because special language has to be included to make sure the life estate is created and is legal, it is best that you talk with a lawyer familiar with property law to make sure it is set up correctly.

Unless you are already a client of the attorney, your e-mail may NOT be protected by the attorney-client privilege. Moreover, unless it is encrypted, e-mail can be intercepted by persons other than the recipient. Deadlines are extremely important in most legal matters. You may lose important legal rights if you do not hire an attorney immediately to advise you. Many people do not check their e-mail daily, and some attorneys do not respond to unsolicited e-mail from non-clients.
