WHO WE ARE

South Brooklyn Legal Services provides legal representation, advice and referrals to low-income Brooklyn residents in areas including child care, consumer law, employment/unemployment, family law/domestic violence, foreclosure prevention, government benefits, HIV, housing, pension benefits, special education, SSI/disability rights, and tax.

  This is a collaboration between SBLS and other organizations. The clinic is walk in only, and is first come, first served.

WHO WE SERVE
See below for an explanation of restrictions on who we can serve.
 
Area(s) Served:  Kings (Brooklyn)
 
We serve primarily southern and western Brooklyn, but also take cases from other areas of Brooklyn when legal help for homeowners is otherwise unavailable.
Languages Spoken:  Signers for the deaf, Spanish
Languages for which interpreters can be provided: When a client requires language services (whether that need is articulated by the client in requesting language services, or determined by staff) an interpreter shall be provided to assist with all non-ministerial communications between the advocate and the client, including at hearings and other court appearances. En Español: Cuando un cliente necesita servicios de lenguaje se proveerá un interpreté para ayudar con todas comunicaciones ministeriales entre el cliente y el preconizador, incluyendo vistas y otras comparecencias en el tribunal. Interpretación por teléfono para otros idiomas es dispuesto.

Income Guidelines: 
  Your family's income should be at or below 200.0% of the poverty level.

Other Requirements: For help, you must be:
  You must be a U.S. citizen or legal immigrant.
  This program does not serve prisoners

This group provides the following types of services based on your legal needs and its resources:
 
  Full Legal Representation- The Project provides advocacy and representation for homeowners in owner-occupied, one- to four-family homes in Brooklyn.
  Brief Advice
  Pro Se Legal Clinic- Workshops
  Self-Help Materials
  Other- Referrals to other benefits

If your problem is an emergency as described below, follow the contact instructions for emergency cases. Most offices are open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
