| WHO WE ARE |
Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A (Brooklyn A) has been the primary provider of civil legal services throughout North and East Brooklyn for 35 years. Our clients are low-income individuals, families and local groups who otherwise would not have access to representation. We provide community-based services that integrate the culture, values and norms of those communities and maximize our effectiveness via close and mutually supportive relationships with neighborhood organizations that share our commitment to social and economic justice. We are also unique in serving as the legal arm of local initiatives to rebuild and reviatlize our communities. this work results in the creation of housing, child care and health care facilities, development of schools, nursing homes, senior citizen centers and jobs.
Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A has instituted a program to address the epidemic of foreclosures in our community. Staffed by five attorneys in our East Brooklyn and Bushwick offices the unit addresses the crisis by full representation and preparation of pro se materials for those who are the subject of foreclosure actions in the Supreme Court. The Unit will evaluate the loan, determine the best avenues for defense to the action and refer the client for mortgage counseling where appropriate. Intake is initially by telephone with follow up interviews when appropriate.
