Housing Volunteer Lawyer for the Day Program (part of the New York State Access to Justice Program)
WHO WE ARE
The New York State Court system has established the Volunteer Attorney Program as a free service designed to ensure that people have access to competent legal advice to guide them as they represent themselves. There are also programs that provide limited scope representation in courtrooms.
Under the supervision of court staff, volunteer attorneys spend full days or parts of days in a courthouse, and are available to provide limited representation to landlords or tenants in their non-payment cases in the Housing Court's Resolution Part. The representation begins and ends the same day. This project is conducted in partnership with the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
