| WHO WE ARE |
The goal of MFY's Kinship Caregiver Law Project is to help stabilize families, promote children's security, and prevent children from entering the foster care system. The Kinship Caregiver Law Project will provide advice, counsel and representation to grandparents and other family members who are taking care of related children. | This group provides the following types of services based on your legal needs and its resources: |

Full Legal Representation- For caregivers who are interested in pursuing legal custody, guardianship, and private placement adoptions or other matters that may involve petitioning the Court, the Project will match caregivers with a pro bono attorney who will prepare documents and provide representation. The Kinship Caregiver Law Project also provides representation for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status petitions and advice on representation on public assistance matters.
Brief Advice- The Project will host Legal Clinics at which caregivers may meet one-on-one with an attorney to discuss their situation and get advice and counsel.
Pro Se Legal Clinic- The Project will host Legal Clinics at which caregivers may meet one-on-one with an attorney to discuss their situation and get advice and counsel.
Self-Help Materials
Other- Know Your Rights Workshops. The project will help caregivers to understand their rights and options by conducting workshops on guardianship, custody, adoption, public benefits and other topics of concern. The project will send an attorney to speak with caregivers at support group meetings, centers, social service agencies, etc.
