WHO WE ARE

The Legal Aid Society's Brooklyn Office for the Aging provides free civil legal service to Brooklyn resident aged 60 and over on a wide range of matters with an emphasis on eviction prevention, maximization of government benefits and urgent consumer law issues.

HOW TO GET HELP
   To contact this group, CALL (718) 645-3111
 
 Monday: 9-5
 Tuesday: 9-5
 Wednesday: 9-5
 Thursday: 9-5
 Friday: 9-5
  Have all the papers about your legal problem and information about your income on hand when you call.
  Intake for new cases is by telephone, generally on the 2nd & 4th Mondays of each month beginning at 10 am and continuing until all available slots are filled.

Languages Spoken:  Russian, Italian, Amharic, Spanish, Creole
Languages for which interpreters can be provided: Can provide interpreters for all languages.
Wheelchair Accessible: Y
Access for the deaf: Clients can contact the office either through their own relay services or with the assistance of a referral source. Can also arrange for American Sign Language interpreters.
Income Guidelines: 

  There are no strict guidelines, but the emphasis is on serving those with the greatest need.
 
Other Requirements: For help, you must be:
  a senior (60 years or older)
  This program does not serve prisoners
  This program does not serve Must be age 60 or older.

Emergency Instructions
If your problem is an emergency as described below, follow the contact instructions for emergency cases. Most offices are open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
 
What is an Emergency?  Clients facing immediate eviction or termination of essential government benefits.
