WHO WE ARE

The Workers Defense League assists workers with work related problems and conducts educational campaigns around various workers' rights issues. The Workers Defense League provides free representation to hundreds of people who are believed to have been unfairly denied unemployment insurance benefits after losing or leaving their jobs.  Please be aware that the individuals providing advice and representation are not lawyers, but are qualified to represent clients at hearings.

HOW TO GET HELP

 Monday: 9:00am - 5:00pm
 Tuesday: 9:00am - 5:00pm
 Wednesday: 9:00am - 5:00pm
 Thursday: 9:00am - 5:00pm
 Friday: 9:00am - 5:00pm
  Callers should have the Notice of Determination of Ineligibility for Unemployment Insurance benefits and/or the Notice of Unemployment Insurance hearing on hand when they call if possible.
  Messages can be left 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Workers Defense League provides free representation at hearings ONLY in New York City (all five counties). However, our office is available to talk by phone and try to advise callers from the suburbs and upstate NY.
Languages for which interpreters can be provided: The administrative courts can provide interpreters.

TYPE OF HELP
This group provides the following types of services based on your legal needs and its resources:
 
  Full Legal Representation- Only to New York City residents (all 5 boroughs) Representation is only at administrative hearings for Unemployment Insurance Benefits in New York City.
  Brief Advice- Available to anyone in New York State
  Self-Help Materials
  Other- Workers Defense League can refer callers to free or low-cost consultations.
