WHO WE ARE

Nassau/ Suffolk Law Services is a non-profit,  public interest law firm that provides free legal assistance in civil matters to low income and disabled Long Islanders.  We are dedicated to the principle that our less advantaged neighbors should have access to quality legal assistance when they need it.  We believe strongly in equal justice and know how important it is to the well being of our community that the legal rights of the poor are protected.

HOW TO GET HELP
   To contact this group, CALL (516) 292-8100, extension 3158.
 
 Monday: 9:00am - 05:00pm
 Wednesday: 9:00am - 05:00pm
 Friday: 9:00am - 05:00pm
  Please bring all documents related to your case.
  Calls will generally be returned within two days. Walk-ins, those without appointments, who have emergencies, such as pending foreclosure sale, or court deadline, should bring all relevant documents (court papers, note, mortgage, disclosures, other)

Income Guidelines: 
  Your family's income should be at or below 125.0% of the poverty level.

  Income guidelines for the foreclosure prevention unit is 80% of the Long Island region median income, obtainable from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
 
Case may be accepted up to 200% of poverty under some circumstances.
 
Other Requirements: For help, you must be:
  You must be a U.S. citizen or legal immigrant.
  This program does not serve prisoners

This group provides the following types of services based on your legal needs and its resources:
 
  Full Legal Representation- We are unable to represent all households who meet our eligibility criteria, and we therefore attempt to provide representation based on priority of need and merit.

Emergency Instructions
If your problem is an emergency as described below, follow the contact instructions for emergency cases. Most offices are open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
 
What is an Emergency?  72 hour notice from Sheriff, illegal lock-out, utility shut off.
 
Emergency Contact Information:  Clients with emergencies are seen or called back the same day in most instances.
