Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS) Elderly Project
WHO WE ARE
The Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS) Elderly Project provides pro bono legal services to the elderly (60+) residents of Manhattan. We provide services in four ways: walk-in legal clinics at specific senior center sites on pre-arranged days and times each month, social worker direct contacts to discuss legal issues that their clients seem to be having, legal information seminars for seniors and senior center staff, and direct referrals of appropriate matters to volunteer lawyers, legal service providers or the City Bar Legal Referral Service.
In 2009, VOLS conducted 33 legal information seminars reaching approximately 740 seniors and 170 senior center staff members.
HOW TO GET HELP

VOLS' volunteer attorneys assist eligible clients in the preparation of a Last Will and Testament, Medical Directives (Health Care Proxy or Living Will) and Power of Attorney.
All requests for legal services come through the VOLS legal clinics or through a referral from a social worker or agency.
This group does not provide legal representation in court.
