| WHO WE ARE |
Through its pro se divorce program, the Albany County Bar Association enables indigent clients to file and receive uncontested divorces. An ACBA staff member assists pro se family court litigants with filling out various petitions in Albany Family Court. In April the Association sponsors the Annual Law Day Run Against Domestic Violence and donates the proceeds to shelters. Every May, the Association sponsors Law Day USA, in which volunteer attorneys provide free legal consultations at several public sites throughout the Capital District. The Association also participates in the Senior Citizen Law Day, at which seniors and their caregivers receive free legal information. In October 2010, the ACBA and the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York teamed up to introduce the "Attorney For a Day" Program in Albany City court. A volunteer attorney will offer limted representation on first appearance to qualified tenants who are facing eviction. Attorney training is offered in the areas of bankruptcy, landlord/ tenant, and matrimonial law. Pro Bono opportunities are available for lawyers, mentors, paralegals and law students on weekdays, evenings and weekends.
