Legal Aid Society - Community Development Project
The Legal Aid Society's Community Development Project serves as corporate counsel to grassroots community-based organizations, not-for-profit corporations, low-income small businesses, and HDFC (low-income) coops and rentals on issues including incorporation, tax exemption, charitable compliance, real estate, contracts, corporate governance, employment, finance, intellectual property, and the development and preservation of affordable housing. Upper Manhattan and the Bronx is the primary catchment area but meritorious cases are accepted from throughout the five boroughs. Screening is done Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., by calling 212-426-3000 and asking for the Community Development Project.
