The NYC Bankruptcy Assistance Project was created by leading New York bankruptcy attorneys and is part of Legal Services NYC. We help low-income debtors to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy petitions where they are their own attorney. We occasionally represent debtors in Chapter 13 cases and we find volunteer attorneys for people with contested matters in the bankruptcy court. Most of our assistance is provided by volunteer attorneys and law students, who are trained and supervised by the Project.
