Steuben County Office for the Aging
The Steuben County Office for the Aging has been designated by the State of New York to plan and coordinate services to meet the needs of our county's older residents. We do this by working to improve access to services that will assist our older citizens to age in place and by striving to expand the range of services available for older persons and their caregivers. Our mission is to enable persons aged sixty and older to continue living independently in a safe environment. Types of services provided are benefits counseling; assistance in accessing services such as HEAP, Medicare Part D, EPIC and Project SHARE; information and screening for Medicaid and Food Stamps; in home services such as assistance with eating, bathing, reminders to take medication, housework, laundry, shopping, errands and paying bills; personal emergency response units; long term care Ombudsman for people residing in such facilities; transportation; income tax counseling; and caregiver services such as support, and learning seminars. Legal advice, representation, or referral are available through the Office for the Aging pertaining, but not liminted to: Medicare and Medicaid, Consumer Complaints, Social Security/SSI, Hospital Patient Rights, Landlord/Tenant Relations, Other Entitlements and Benefits. Legal services are not available to cover wills, criminal cases, negligence actions, or other cases for which a private attorney may be obtained on a contingency basis.
