South Brooklyn Legal Services - Family Law & Domestic Violence
South Brooklyn Legal Services provides free legal help in civil cases to
low-income people living in western and southern Brooklyn.
The Family/Domestic Violence Unit provides free legal services,
including advice, representation and referral, for the following legal
issues: divorce, custody, visitation, child support, spousal support,
orders of protection, immigration remedies for victims of domestic
violence and information about employment remedies for victims of
domestic violence.
Children entering a Domestic Violence shelter in New York City are
entitled to immediate school placement in a nearby school. Or they can
elect to return to their old school. The Department of Education should
immediately arrange transportation or provide Metrocards, depending on
whichever is appropriate. Special Education students are entitled to the
same quick placement/transportation as general education students.
Anyone experiencing a delay in enrollment should contact Johnson Tyler,
an attorney at South Brooklyn Legal Services. 718-237-5548, or
