Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS) Elderly Project
The Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS) Elderly Project
provides pro bono legal services to the elderly (60+) of Manhattan. We
provide services in four ways: walk-in legal clinics at specific senior
center sites on pre-arranged days and times each month, social worker
direct contacts to discuss legal issues that their clients seem to be
having, legal information seminars for seniors and senior center staff,
and direct referrals of appropriate matters to volunteer lawyers, legal
service providers or the City Bar Legal Referral Service.
In 2007, we provided services to Manhattan seniors on 1479 cases. In
2007 we conducted 42 legal information sessions reaching about 700
seniors and 380 senior center staff.
