Selfhelp Community Services, Inc. -Evelyn Frank Legal Resources Program
A private, non-sectarian, not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, Selfhelp was founded in 1936 by a small group of refugees fleeing persecution during the Holocaust. Our mission has always been to help older adults live happy, independent lives in their own homes with services that help maintain their health and safety. Today, Selfhelp offers 20,000 aging, frail and "at-risk" New Yorkers a comprehensive network of social service, senior housing and home care services. It is also the oldest and largest provider of Nazi victim services in North America. For seven decades, Selfhelp has dedicated itself to being a source of information, service, community, and quality home care for New Yorkers. The Evelyn Frank Legal Resources Program is a small program within Selfhelp with two full-time lawyers and three paralegals, who provide legal services to Selfhelp clients and also brief advice, consultation and limited representation to other aging New Yorkers on access to government-funded health insurance such as Medicaid and Medicare.
