The Herkimer County Office for the Aging (OFA) plans, funds, and delivers services to people aged 60 and older in Herkimer County. Our Goal is to help senior citizens remain in their homes, independently, for as long as possible, while giving priority to those with the greatest economic and social needs. Information, Referral and Assistance with most any aging related issue is available either by calling or with a personal visit. This includes help with forms, information on senior housing, nursing homes, and other benefits. In-Home Services include shopping assistance, homemaking, and personal care services. These services are available to homebound and/or disabled seniors aged 60 and older. These programs are operated either directly by OFA or the Alternatives in Long Term Care Unit. Legal Aid Services are available in the areas of public entitlement, family law, landlord and tenant disputes, wills and consumer problems through a contract with the Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York.
