Albany Law School Law Clinic & Justice Center - Securities Arbitration Clinic
The Albany Law School Law Clinic & Justice Center ("The Clinic"), established in 1981, has a long history of providing free legal services including direct client representation; technical assistance; counsel and advice; referrals and community legal education training. The Clinic utilizes second-year and third-year law students who work under the supervision of faculty attorneys. The Clinic's mission is to provide high quality legal representation and to teach students to be skilled professionals who practice law with compassion and sensitivity to individual client needs. Clinical projects include (1) the Civil Rights and Disabilities Law Clinic, a NYS Protection and Advocacy program that provides zealous advocacy for individuals with developmental disabilities; (2) the Introduction to Litigation Clinic which secures unemployment benefits for individuals who have lost their jobs; (3) the Family Violence Litigation Clinic and Domestic Violence Prosecution Project which help keep victims and children safe in the wake of emotionally scarring incidents of domestic violence; (4) the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic which counsels low-income clients concerning Internal Revenue Service disputes, providing necessary financial and emotional relief from tax bills; and (5) the Health Law Clinic which provides legal services to individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS or cancer.
