Community Service Society's Department of Legal Counsel was created in 1987 to conduct impact litigation in public interest law. Legal intervention strategies complement the work of CSS's policy analysts and community organizing departments in advocating for the poor, and serve as additional tools in our commitment to eliminate the causes and symptoms of poverty. Since 1989, the Department has litigated significant cases in a number of areas and has provided amicus briefs to state and federal courts.

This Department offers services in Housing, Health, Welfare and Public Benefits, and Education.
