City Bar Justice Center
With the aid of volunteer lawyers who are trained and supervised by its staff, the City Bar Justice Center provides legal information, advice and representation to poor and low-income New Yorkers through a number of pro bono projects and a telephone hotline. Legal issues covered by the pro bono projects include public benefits for homeless people and veteans, immigration relief to battered immigrants, asylum, consumer bankruptcy, defending homeowners from foreclosure, assisting cancer patients and the elderly with legal questions, and small business assistance. The Legal Hotline provides basic legal advice over the telephone on civil legal issues, such as divorce and family law matters, landlord-tenant disputes and consumer law problems and referrals to City Bar Justice Center legal projects where applicable.
