Did You Get an Eviction Notice from your Landlord?
by: Goddard-Riverside Community Center - West Side SRO Law Project

 Remember...

  1. Your landlord cannot put you out himself.  Only a marshall can evict you.  To get a marshall, your landlord must take you to court.  He must also win in court.  This takes at least several weeks.

 2. You might not owe all the rent the landlord says you owe.  Your landlord may be asking for a rent that is not legal and is too high.  Bad conditions in your home or building may mean that your landlord is not entitled to all the rent.

 3. You may be eligible for financial help.  A "one-shot" grant of money might help you to pay your back rent.

 4. You might be eligible for free legal help to stop your eviction.  If you get an eviction notice from your landlord, click on
