Tenants: Don't Move
by: Goddard-Riverside Community Center - West Side SRO Law Project

Tenants:

Has your landlord, or any employee of your building:

  • Told you that you have to move out of the building, or into another room

  • Threatened to remove you from your room without taking you to court

  • Harassed you or threatened you if you refused to move?

It is illegal for your landlord to try to make you move out of your room or out of the building without taking you to court, even if you owe rent. If you have lived in your building for thirty days or more, you can only be evicted by a judge in Housing Court. Don't move unless you go to court and a judge orders you to move!
