What is LiveHelp?
LiveHelp helps you find information on LawHelp/NY. You talk with a LawHelp/NY specialist by typing your question. Your question is sent immediately to the specialist, and the specialist quickly sends you the location of the information you're looking for, if available. (This is also called "chatting" or "instant messaging.")
Who will I chat with?
You chat with staff and volunteers of LawHelp/NY and its partner organizations. The staff and volunteers have been trained to help find information on LawHelp/NY.
Who may use LiveHelp?
Anyone can use LiveHelp, though the majority of our information was developed for low-income individuals.
When will LiveHelp be available?
LiveHelp is available from 9:00-5:00 (Eastern Standard Time) Monday - Friday during the summer.
How does LiveHelp work?
LiveHelp is convenient and easy to use. Just click on the LiveHelp button (Need help finding information?) on any page on LawHelp/NY to begin. You do not need to download or install software.
What types of questions can I ask?
LiveHelp will help you find information on LawHelp/NY. LawHelp/NY has information about common civil legal problems, such as divorce, debt, housing and government benefits. LawHelp/NY can't give you advice on what to do in your particular case, but we can help you find organizations that can advise or represent you for free.
LawHelp/NY does not have information about criminal cases. We do have information about employment, housing or other problems that criminal charges or convictions can cause.
What does LiveHelp cost?
LiveHelp is free! We offer LiveHelp as a service to LawHelp/NY visitors.
What personal information do we ask for?
You don't need to give us any personal information to use LiveHelp. Read our privacy policy for more information.
Is LiveHelp Section 508 compliant?
LiveHelp uses LivePerson's Timpani software, which meets all current guidelines for compliance with Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C.-794d) and ADA Guidelines. The LivePerson software is designed to work with standard assistive technology hardware (such as specialty keyboards and Braille readers) as well as operating system technologies (such as stickykeys and mousekeys.)
