The winner of the 2007 Webby Award for Best Law Website is LawHelp.org, a portal that provides low and moderate income individuals with access to legal services. This unique site, which offers state-based legal referrals, know-your-rights information and a variety of self-help tools, was created and is managed by Pro Bono Net, the nonprofit leader in technology solutions to expand access to justice for those in need.

"We are honored to be singled out as creators of the top legal website, but share this award with the more than 200 legal aid, pro bono, bar and court-based access to justice partners around the county with whom we have collaborated on LawHelp," says Mark O''Brien, Executive Director of Pro Bono Net. "As a nonprofit organization committed to making information about legal rights accessible to the public and to improving outcomes for those cannot afford to hire an attorney, we are pleased that the Webby Awards recognized the innovative work of the public interest legal community with this distinction."

Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by the New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including Websites, Interactive Advertising, Online Film & Video, and Mobile Websites. The awards are presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, an organization of media luminaries that includes Harvey Weinstein, Arianna Huffington, Matt Groening, Jamie Oliver, Internet inventor Vinton Cerf, and RealNetworks CEO Rob Glaser. Founded in 1996, The Webby Awards is known worldwide for its famous five-word speeches.

"The Webby Awards honors the outstanding work that is setting the standards for the Internet," said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. "LawHelp''s selection is a testament to the skill, ingenuity, and vision of its creators."

The 11th Annual Webby Awards received a record 8,000 entries from over 60 countries and all 50 states.

About Pro Bono Net
Pro Bono Net is a national nonprofit organization based in New York City that works to increase access to justice for the millions of low income people who face legal problems every year without help from a lawyer. Founded in 1998 with support from the Open Society Institute, Pro Bono Net has created a broad and powerful network of nonprofit legal aid providers, courts and bar associations across the United States. This network uses two innovative web-based platforms (www.probono.net and www.lawhelp.org) to recruit and manage volunteers and provide direct information and tools for low-income communities and the organizations that serve them. LawHelp encompasses a powerful network of statewide legal aid websites that have been funded in large part through the Technology Innovations Grant (TIG) program of the Legal Services Corporation.
