What are food stamps?

vFood Stamps are benefits to purchase food from local stores.
vThe Texas Health and Human Services Commission (TxHHSC) is responsible for determining who is eligible for Food Stamps and for distributing the benefits.
vIn certain circumstances you may be eligible for Emergency or "Expedited" Food Stamps
ØEligibility for expedited Food Stamps is determined by a special faster processing of the Food Stamp Application.
ØIf you qualify for expedited Food Stamps, you should receive Food Stamps on the same day you make your application
ØTo be eligible for expedited Food Stamps, you must meet the following requirements:
§Your household's liquid resources must total $100 or less, and gross monthly income totals less than $150; or
§Your household's liquid resources and countable gross monthly income total less than the most recent monthly expenses for rent/mortgage and utilities; or
§Your household includes a migrant or seasonal farmworker and meets certain requirements.
ØLiquid Resources are resources that are readily negotiable (such as cash, checking or savings accounts, EBT account, savings certificates, stocks, or bonds).
