Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Council
The Virgin Islands Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Council (DVSAC) is a tri-island body that seeks to facilitate the coordination and collaboration of all individuals, agencies, and organization in the territory for the reduction and eventual elimination of domestic violence and sexual assault throughout the territory. The DVSAC and its member agencies meet on a monthly basis to work on solutions to the problem of family violence and sexual assault in particular sectors of the service system and to address any issues or difficulties that individual agencies may be having.

Issues are primarily focused on in the committees of the council. The four main committees are the Media, Criminal Justice, Clergy, and conference. Ad Hoc committees are formed when a need arises. The Media Committee is responsible for the ad campaigns, including print, radio, and television. This committee is also charged with developing the image of the council and portraying its multi-disciplinary make-up and efforts. The Criminal Justice Committee focuses on issues within the criminal justice system, including bail, stalkin& prosecution, and issues involving the court system. The Clergy Committee works to mobilize the faith community around the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault. Finally, the Conference committee is responsible for planning the Council's annual conference, which provides continued education for many sectors of the community around these issues.

The DVSAC also seeks to serve as an information clearinghouse and resource center for the territoiy on domestic abuse, rape, child sexual assault and other crimes. The Council often partners with other agencies to offer specialized training to not only its member agencies, but also other agencies and community based organizations. Through its member agencies and other resources, the Council can offer technical assistance to agencies in need, The DVSAC has hired three outreach workers for St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John as a resource for schools, community organizations and other businesses requesting presentations on the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault. The DVSAC is not a victim-service agency and does not service individuals that are personally involved in domestic or sexually violent situations. The Council may serve this individual by offering a referral to the appropriate agency for assistance.
