CLEAR*Sr. Hotline -- Coordinated Legal Education, Advice and Referral system

Other Information

CLEAR*Sr (Coordinated Legal Education, Advice and Referral for senior citizens) is a statewide toll-free client access system for people 60 years of age and older to obtain free legal assistance with civil (non-criminal) problems. CLEAR*Sr intake hours are Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.When calling the CLEAR line callers may get a busy signal or a message stating that all circuits are busy. Callers getting this messsage should be told to please try the call again. Once the call has been answered wait times range from 10 minutes to over an hour depending on call volumes. Based on the information given to the CLEAR*Sr staff during the intake process, callers may be given verbal or written advice that may help callers solve their problem on their own. In some cases, CLEAR*Sr staff may try to solve a caller's problem by advocating with another party on the caller's behalf. If the caller has a problem that is more complicated and the caller needs an attorney to represent him or her, we will try to refer the caller to a legal services provider in the caller's community. We try to make the best referral possible.  However, we cannot guarantee that the agency or program callers are referred to will be able to represent the caller.  There may also be times when we will not be able to locate an appropriate referral in a caller's geographic area.  We will do our very best to see that callers get all the help that is available.
